The Lagos State University of Education, College of Humanities Education (COHED) is gearing up to host a groundbreaking international conference scheduled to take place from August 17 to 21, 2025, at the Oto/Ijanikin Campus of the institution. The conference will bring together scholars, experts and policy makers to discuss the pivotal role of humanities in shaping Nigeria's sustainable development.
With the theme "Humanities, Humanities Education, and Nigeria's Sustainable National Development," the conference is expected to be a thought-provoking experience. Distinguished speakers lined up for the conference include Professor Bishop Dapo Asaju of the Department of Religions and Peace Studies, Lagos State University, Ojo, who will deliver the keynote address, and lead paper presenters, Professor David Aworawo of the Department of History and Diplomatic Studies, University of Lagos, Akoka, as well as Associate Professor John Charles Ryan, Senior Research Fellow, Nulungu Institute, University of Notre Dame, Australia, respectively.
According to the Ag. Dean of the College, Associate Professor Omolara Loko, the conference will kick off on August 18, 2025, with an opening ceremony at Oluremi Tinubu Hall by 10:00 AM, led by the Chief Host, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, herself as Host and the Local Organising Committee Chairman of the Conference, Professor Femi Adedina, ensuring a warm welcome for attendees.
The conference is expected to engender meaningful discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among participants by exploring various intersections of the humanities alongside sustainable development goals while making great contributions to the growth of Nigeria's educational millieu.
In a brief address ahead of the conference, the LOC Chairman, Professor Femi Adedina said: "We are thrilled to announce that the upcoming international conference organized by the College of Humanities Education (COHED) at Lagos State University of Education will attract a diverse array of distinguished scholars from within and outside Nigeria. As the first conference of its kind, we expect it to be a landmark event that will rekindle memories and create meaningful discussions among key personalities in government, stakeholders from the public and private sectors, and renowned academics".

Their commitment to this conference is a reflection of the importance of humanities education in shaping our nation's sustainable development. As the countdown begins, excitement is building, and all eyes are on COHED's pioneering effort to redefine humanities landscape in Nigeria. The anticipation is palpable, and the potential for impact is immense.
